About Us
Turning Point Television is a not-for-profit organisation who, through the mediums of television and the worldwide web, is dedicated to raising the profile of disability across the UK. The team members are all volunteers, some of whom have various disabilities and/or sensory impairments. All the planning, filming, editing, scriptwriting, production and web design is carried out by ourselves. We are the only organisation of its kind in the UK.*
Society often disables individuals more than their physical disability, and team members have personal experiences of the barriers, exclusion and prejudices that people have to face just because they have a disability.
Turning Point Television is about people with disabilities having their say, in their own words, about issues that affect them every day of their lives.
Opportunities for disabled people are highlighted in our programme, called 'In Focus', to show what can and is being done by people with disabilities in the workplace, in education, in sports and at leisure. Our emphasis is on ability not disability.
Our television programmes and our website together provide a valuable information resource for anyone who has an interest in, or is affected by, disability. Programme features are covered in more depth on the website, and there are links to other relevant websites.
Membership of Turning Point is not limited to people with disabilities. We work alongside anyone who upholds the aims and ideals of the group regardless of whether they have a disability or not. If you are interested in helping out and learning about filming and editing programmes why not contact us?
We hope you find our programmes and website useful and interesting. Your ideas and comments will be gratefully received. Just click on the 'Contact Us' link at the top of this page and have your say.
